CRYSTAL SPHERE – THE WORLD IN YOUR HANDS!

Photographic equipment has now become so popular that photographers renamed the crystal sphere into a lensball. What is the size of the lensball will be optimal for shooting? Let’s look at three balls: 60, 80 and 120 mm, which are on sale, and decide which one is better suited and for what purposes.

How to take pictures with the crystal sphere

Optical ball of small size
Lensball size of less than 60 mm is considered small. What are the strengths and weaknesses of this particular size?

Benefits

Weight. It practically does not increase the weight of your photo bag, it facilitates its use for manual photography.
The size. Due to the small size of the balls will be easier to pack, providing more space for other objects laying. The smaller size of the ball allows for shooting to install it in places where large balls will not fit.
Convenience. This size makes it easy to hold the ball between the index finger and thumb.

disadvantages

Weight is in this case also a disadvantage. A heavy ball is usually immobile, remains in the same place where it was installed. A small ball, on the contrary, can be shifted, for example, by a gust of wind.
Focus and distortion – this size of the crystal ball will have a smaller zone of the best perception of the focus, and most of the proportions will be distorted. Using a smaller aperture may help a little here, when most of the ball gets into focus.
Lens requirements. If you want to fill the entire frame with a small lensball, you will need a macro lens.

Medium Crystal Ball
Refers to balls with a diameter of 80 mm. Many photographers consider this size ideal.

Benefits

Weight. It is slightly heavier than small, but still not too heavy and cumbersome.
Size is a normal size, although you may not be able to place a sphere in a small space. For photographing through such a ball, a standard lens is enough; a macro will not be needed here.
Focus and distortion. At this size, the focused area inside the ball dominates, and the distortions on the edge are much less noticeable.

disadvantages

Size – this lensball size has very few flaws. However, if you want to take a picture in which you will focus only on the edge of the ball, it will be more difficult. Similarly, using a ball to overlap a background object will be more difficult, because the ball is still small.

Optical ball large
Large sized balloons are crystal lenses with a diameter of 100 mm or more. This size is not very common among most photographers. Although it has a significant weight, it produces better images with it.

Benefits

Optics – this ball size has the best optical properties, and most of the ball will be in sharp focus.
Convenience is the right size to place the ball in your or someone else’s palm. One of the classic compositions with a lensball is the hand that holds the glass ball.
Size — this makes it much easier to fill the frame with your ball and even hide some background elements behind the ball.

disadvantages

Weight. The obvious drawback here is weight. He noticeably weights the bag for the camera. Its weight is equivalent to the weight of the additional lens, so the photographer will need to choose what to take from them.
Size – this ball will take a lot of space in your bag.
